Philosophical Foundation
I believe that the therapeutic relationship is central to fostering healing and growth for my clients. An authentic connection between therapist and client creates a foundation of trust, which is essential for individuals to feel safe enough to explore their thoughts and feelings. Resilience building, learning healthy coping strategies, distress tolerance, and self-discovery are common themes in my work with youth. However, none of these goals can be achieved without a trusting relationship, where clients feel understood and supported. Inspired by existential principles, I see my role as a partner in their journey, facilitating an environment where they can confront challenges and embrace their unique experiences. I also recognize the power of art as a means of expression, helping children access deeper layers of their emotions and communicate in ways that resonate with them.
Professional Background
I am a registered clinical counselor with a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology and Art Therapy. This unique blend reflects my conviction in the transformative power of creative expression as a therapeutic tool. Currently, I work part-time with the Fraser Health Authority, primarily supporting youth experiencing severe acute mental health conditions and their families. This role has granted me invaluable insights into the complexities of mental health challenges faced by young individuals today. In my private practice, I focus on youth aged 11 to 25, creating a welcoming environment where they can feel heard, understood, and empowered to navigate their unique journeys.
Therapeutic Approach
My therapeutic approach is fundamentally person-centered, recognizing that each client is a unique individual deserving of tailored care. I draw from a variety of modalities, continually learning and evolving my practice to best meet the needs of those I work with. My approach often incorporates mindfulness, strength-based work, and creativity to facilitate deeper self-exploration. I believe that by integrating these diverse techniques, we can co-create strategies that resonate with each client’s specific experiences and aspirations. Through this personalized and dynamic approach, I strive to foster a sense of agency and empowerment, helping clients recognize their own capacity for resilience and growth.
